Blue Route Opening in Cape Breton

Cycling Nova Scotia and the Coal Town Trail Association, in partnership with the Nova Scotia Department of Public Works, and the Cape Breton Regional Municipality, is proud to share that a  34-kilometre section of the Blue Route Provincial Cycling Network between Glace Bay, Dominion, and Sydney will officially be opened July 25th 2026!

This new section of the Blue Route will incorporate existing infrastructure, including the beautiful Coal Town Trail, Maryann Corbett Trail, along with on-road sections along Seaside Rd, Gardiner Rd, Wilson Road and Sydney Road. They will be connected and marked with a system of Blue Route signage to highlight to locals and visitors that this is a safe and accessible cycling route.

To celebrate this milestone in the development of the Blue Route, we invite you to an opening event being held on Saturday July 25, 2026, from 10:00 am – 11:00 am at the Old Town Hall & Glace Bay Heritage Museum Society, 14 McKeen St, Glace Bay, NS B1A 5B9. The event will include brief remarks, a ribbon cutting and snacks.

There will also be a 10km community ride following the Blue Route along the Coal Town Trail, starting and ending at the Old Town Hall & Glace Bay Heritage Museum Society. We look forward to seeing you there!
