Last year, you provided feedback about 2021 highlights and areas you’d like to see BNS focus in 2022.
You spoke and we listened
You asked for more support for new riders to help work on technical and handling skills. Our Provincial Coach, Jon Burgess coordinated Hop On programs in New Minas and Antigonish over the summer to provide support for kids new to cycling. Special thanks to instructors in these communities for assisting with these programs in 2022! We’ve also worked hard in partnership with the Government of Nova Scotia’s Communities, Culture Tourism and Heritage to train more CAN-BIKE instructors in urban and rural communities including HRM, Argyle, New Minas and Lunenburg. With 9 instructors located throughout the province, BNS was able to provide Level 2 and Level 4 and 5 training to about 25 adults this year!
You asked for more recreational events in 2022. Thanks to our partnership with Kohkos Events, BNS was able to support the second annual Great Annapolis Ride — a 2-day tour in the Annapolis Valley that offers challenge and friendship to our nearly 60 participants. Keep your eyes open for the 3rd Annual GAR event this summer! In addition to this, BNS also co-hosted events like the Dream Team Ride with great coordination from the QEII department of Aneasthesiology. This ride rolled from Bayers Lake Industrial Park to the Bike and Bean Café via the COLTA and BLT trails! This event raised funds to support the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia.
More XCO, CX and Road events in 2022! With COVID precautions in the rear-view mirror, we’re happy to have seen a strong return of racing this season! Whether it was the two Omnium events hosted by the City of Lakes Cycling Club, to the NSCX cyclocross season, we’re so psyched to have seen so many racers out and engaged in friendly battles for the podium this season!
Heading into 2023, we are again eager to hear your feedback! Upon RSVP-ing to the AGM, we asked for highlights of the 2022 Cycling Season, and areas where we can improve in 2023. Please check out some of your responses below.
